What is that thing?

For the past 5 years, I have been watching an object in the night sky. They say planets don't twinkle, but stars do, so it must be something within our solar system, but it does not match the description of any planet I know of. It has gotten bigger and brighter every year. Now, I can see it in the evening before the Sun goes down. Until this year, the only object I was ever able to see in the blue sky, other than the Sun, was the Moon, but now I can see another object, the one I've been watching.

I've been told in the past it was Mars or Venus, but I know it isn't. To prove it isn't Venus I found this very adequate description of when Venus is visible: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081112041440AAAJ4hB

In addition to this, I am currently seeing the Moon and what I believe is one of the planets when the Sun is down, and I am seeing both of them in the sky at the same time as the other object I am seeing.

I have heard that if there is an planet-size object on a collision course with us, scientists would have been studying it for at least the last 10 years, and it would be visible to the naked eye by now. I think that means I am seeing a very large asteroid, or some large planetoid or something.

I'm sure the authorities will say something negative about this, and try to discredit me for it. After all, we don't want to start a mass hysteria, now do we? All I can say is, if it keeps getting bigger and brighter as it has for the last 5 years, it won't be long before we know whether or not it is going to intersect us.

Something else to think about is, the President recently devoted us to finding a way to send a manned craft to an asteroid with the intent of learning how to deflect its course in the event of something like this. We all know humans don't do anything unless we absolutely have to, and that applies especially to the government. There has to be an imminent danger or threat before we will do anything. Until that happens, there is nothing to be alarmed about, as far as they are concerned. And as far as they will admit to us, there is no object in the sky.

That pretense is only good until the object cannot be denied any longer. There is also another set of events happening, one of which the general public was not supposed to be aware of, until a show on cable "accidentally" showed one of them being constructed. It seems that the wealthy and powerful are preparing for a disaster like this. They are building "arks" and other forms of refuge to, hopefully, ride out the storm and survive the disaster. Again, these people would not do something like that if there were no real threat. They would not waste the millions of dollars it costs to build such things. Greed does not spend money for no good reason.

The rest of us? We're fodder. We're expendable. If we die, so what? If we survive? We will be the "mutants", the "rejects", the whatever they want to label us as. We will be treated as though we do not exist, and if we try to make them acknowledge us, they will simply kill us.

I think it is time the people of this planet started waking up. It is time to understand that the world we live in is temporal, and will not last. Technology alone cannot make a difference. Wisdom and understanding are required. Sadly, most of us will die in the event. Many more will die as a result of the conditions created by the event. Those of us that do survive will find life very hard. Food will be extremely scarce. There is no telling how long it will take for things to settle down.

I do know one thing. If I survive, I will not be willing to ally myself with any group that wants to rebuild the world the way it is now. Things have to change, and this will be the wiping of the slate that is necessary to facilitate that change.

Good luck to everyone who reads this. I hope you are ready when it happens.

Living in space

Over the years I have told people about my dream to build a orbital station where people can live and work, where humanity can begin to work toward a future that is more certain, more productive, and more beneficial to all of humanity and all of life.

Many have said things like, "Put me on that list!", and "Let me know when it's ready. I am there!" As much as I have put into designing the station, and the transport system necessary to build it, there is one thing I had not thought about... until recently.

I can sum it up with one question. How many who say they want to go there and do that would continue to feel that way if they knew they would be required to stop smoking, stop drinking, and stop using drugs in order to "go there and do that"? You see, in an enclosed environment like a space station habitat, the prospect for disaster is many times greater than it is here on the planet.

Smoking anything cannot be allowed because it would overtax the scrubber systems that keep the air breathable. Drinking cannot be allowed because of the problems that we all know come with it. We cannot afford the risk of someone being drunk damaging the station to the point that loss of atmospheric pressure jeopardizes everyone and every living thing aboard. The only drugs that could be allowed would be those used for immediate medical healing purposes. Anyone with long-term illness would not be able to live aboard the station, as prolonged care is something better handled on the planet, not aboard a habitat.

With smoking, drinking and drug use being as rampant and widespread world-wide as it is, the prospects of actually getting this station built and operational is dwindling. With the current attitude of people towards alcohol, nicotine, THC and other drug compounds, it seems apparent to me that the majority will choose to stay planet-side rather than give up their chosen poison to go off-planet.

For this reason, I have elected to ask everyone who reads this post to comment and state your opinion of the stance I am taking. I need to know more from the majority before deciding on whether or not to continue with pursuing my dream.
